Jordan Paul Sullivan

Playwright from Dana Point, California

Jordan Paul Sullivan is a playwright from Orange County, California. In 2023 he was the resident playwright for Lantern Theatre, in Dana Point. His radio plays “Pilgrim,” “The Goat Walk,” and “The Foxes” were featured as part of Lantern Theatre’s original comedy series, City of Dana

Sullivan’s storytelling aesthetic is one of “Cyclic Realism.” In a cyclically realistic play, characters not only challenge one another as they pursue their desires, but actively pull apart the worlds they inhabit.

The characters in Sullivan’s plays revolt against laws of physics, the objectivity of memory, historical facts, and even the constructed reality that the playwright has set forth for them. As the “initial” realism of the story gives way, becoming a fabrication of the past compared to the next “cycle” of reality, the characters must learn to deal with the consequences of their transfigured world: the reinvention of rules, physics, memories, histories, and technologies.
